Also, a low that was very much hindering the user experience but has now since changed is the video editing capabilities, putting Loom back at the top.

For this, I know that Loom highlights in a weekly recap that the user saved "X amount of minutes" on a meeting using Loom, but it also allows users with disabilities to have a place to communicate more effectively and breaking barriers for them in the workplace.

I also love that if you mess up words now in your own video, you can edit the words in the transcript and video so AI can replace it for you to make your sentences more clear.

Being able to comment at one point during a video and ask a question is so much more effective than having a real-time meeting, getting cut off, and then not getting through your major points you needed to get through with the group.

Because of it's video nature, it sets up video creation users for success when it comes to doing tutorials. Traditional written documentation can be time-consuming to create and may lack the richness of detail that visual content provides. Loom streamlines the documentation process by allowing users to record step-by-step tutorials, walkthroughs, or explanations. This not only saves time in content creation but also results in more comprehensive and easily understandable documentation.

Time-Saving:

One of Loom's standout features is its reputation for saving time in communication workflows. Also, I LOVE that Loom AI has been able to create a synopsis for me AND be able to break down my conversation into chapters. This makes the video even faster for those who have a lot of material to get through and want to prioritize the most important aspects of the video.

Something else that stands out to me in the interface for the video creator is that they can give "tasks" during the video based on what they said in the video without having to create more manual labor on their end. As someone who has lead teams that do involve task management, this is a game changer to get more users to take action from watching this video.

By seamlessly integrating with popular tools and platforms such as Slack and Google Workspace, Loom becomes an integral part of users' existing workflows. The multiple options gives users the ability to really plug and play whenever they need and get more work done for remote teams. That's why during the pandemic era it blew up -- the need met the demand of this new working environment.

It most likely affects their adoption because cool features and functions can only go so far before your price and your user go head-to-head.

Lows (Potential Areas for Improvement):

Initial Screen for First Time Users

The first screen a new user gets is intense. Some of the questions that come up especially when you don't yet have a Loom account, so where do these "Libraries" come from? Am I in someone else's account? Why am I able to share it at the top in a link? Why am I given all these capabilities I don't know anything about yet? Thankfully, there are other user friendly aspects of the first screen like the length of time of the video that already told me it's sped it up for me, seeing that I can react to the video so the user knows what I am responding to, being able to see my other teammates' comments are a bonus, and having multiple places to become a user of the app makes it easy to sign up. But having to sign up creates a whole barrier of entry and makes it difficult for users to easily take on at first, mainly due to privacy concerns and not understanding fully what you're signing up for.

I know for myself, I didn't even really get to see all the features the first few times I user Loom mainly because I was trying to filter out and look at the "task at hand."

Because Loom does this intuitively, it does make it a bit easier on the user, but the initial screen probably turns off a lot of users and overwhelms them since it's more focused on getting users to sign up for "free" rather than do the action they intend to do in most cases on these videos.

Privacy and Security Concerns:

The nature of video messaging raises valid concerns about privacy and security. While Loom has addressed these issues, some users and organizations may still harbor reservations about sharing sensitive information through video content. I personally think that Loom does hit the mark on a lot of those privacy concerns with 2FA, organizational sharing rights, and also password protected videos. But now with the increase of their AI usage, there are new concerns to address, such as

Dependency on Internet Connectivity:

Loom's effectiveness is contingent on a stable internet connection for recording, uploading, and streaming videos. Users in areas with poor connectivity may encounter challenges, limiting the platform's accessibility. There are a lot of video editors on the market that don't rely on that because of their desktop capabilities and Loom currently isn't able to meet that mark entirely from what I can see as a user.

Competitive Landscape:

In a competitive market for video communication and screen recording tools, Loom needs to continually innovate to stay ahead. The evolving preferences and needs of users necessitate ongoing improvements to maintain its market position. Since they have addressed the video editing needs, more users will now probably want more capabilities. Something that could probably work well for them and takes inspiration from another app called Descript where you can edit in the video editor the aspects of the video you want. The current video editor is fine, but doesn't allow the user to cut and paste other videos or clips you may have created that are what you want to use in the full video.

Customization Options:

Some users may desire more customization options for their video messages. Expanding the range of templates or introducing additional branding features could enhance the platform's appeal, especially for business users. Right now, larger, more enterprise video editors are making their mark by being able to white label their work.

Loom understands that maintaining brand consistency is paramount for businesses and professionals. To this end, the platform offers branding features that enable users to customize their video content with logos, colors, and other brand elements. This ensures that every communication reflects the unique identity of the user or organization, fostering a cohesive and professional appearance.

Personalized Thumbnails and Video Previews: Capturing Attention Effectively

In the realm of visual communication, first impressions matter. Loom's customization options extend to personalized thumbnails and video previews, allowing users to choose or create visuals that best represent their content. Right now, I wish I could have a thumbnail that would make a preview on different platforms aside from Slack - if it could do that on my website or even other places, that would be beneficial for my own experience if I wanted to share it so that it appeals to different business cases.
